On watching your highlights
Why You Should Watch Your Own Highlights
I used to work with a college player named Macy Markus.
Macy was a right-handed bucket that only passed with her left hand in practice.
Versatile facilitator and scorer.
So versatile, in fact, that she had multiple 40-point games her senior season.
Cookin.
But the start of her senior season was plagued by a months-long slump.
A mix of team culture and second-guessing led to some of the lowest performances of her career.
And then there was David.
David was a college sophomore and practice player who had a crush on Macy (all rated G stuff, he was adorable).
And in a... perhaps not unwanted, but definitely not asked-for gesture of admiration...
David made Macy a highlight video.
It was from her junior season.
And as you'll see, it was 19 minutes long.
Macy and I got to watch it together in our hilariously random house in Tempe, AZ, and it was a compilation of her FRYING people with both hands.
I'd been in the gym with Macy to hoop about 15 to 20 times before.
There were things in this basketball love-bomb video I'd never seen her do.
And that night...
somewhere inside of those 19 minutes...
something clicked for Macy.
After a period of hardship, it's so easy to forget all that you have to offer.
All the things that make you special.
All the things that you're capable of.
Macy was no different.
The whole breakthrough was waiting on the other side.
She just needed to be reminded of who tf she was.
And Macy was really that bitch.
That 40-piece I mentioned earlier?
Happened the very next game.
In fact, she hardly fell below 25 for the remainder of the year.
If you don't have a highlight film,
I need you to make one.
If you do have a highlight film,
I need you to remember to watch it whenever you're in a slump.
(Because slumps WILL happen.)
Next time you find yourself in the gray...
now you know what to do.
Because sometimes,
you just need a reminder that you're really one of them ones.
Now go be it.

P.S.
Last week I launched the Shooters Shoot Coaching Certification Program.
I just added a full walkthrough of the community to this video.
It is self-paced, includes both self-led curriculum and live weekly calls, and packed with an insane amount of value that I can't WAIT for y'all to see.
We've accepted three coaches so far, and the feedback has mostly been messages-in-all-caps type of excitement:
"BASKETBALL NEEDS THIS"
...was my favorite one.
I hope you apply. :)
